lettering on unusual surfaces

This great photograph, taken by my client of his fiancee and her dog, had been professionally sprayed onto a 3/4” thick slat of wood.  As I learned from the printer, its surface, on which I was being asked to letter a verse, was also uncoated.  The challenge was in keeping my inks from sinking and spreading into that very porous surface.

No less a challenge came in a request from

yet another client to letter the seating plan of

her wedding onto a gigantic 45” x 85”mirror.

I lettered standing on chairs and stools, then

lying on the floor and, finally, with the mirror

flat on two supporting tables for the final line.
